Check out the video for a full explanation below, and download the script at the bottom of this article. You can link Mask Path properties to other path properties (paths in a shape layer and brush strokes), but the properties are not accessible for. You can also select multiple masks to move them together as well. Let’s say I’m starting out with an image of an open door, and an image of Tahiti (alpha mattes and masks can also be used with footage too, so what we do here can be done with film as well).

After effects mask how to#
It does not matter if your mask is feathered, or animated, the adjustment will be globally applied to all mask path keyframes. Alpha Mattes and Masks are useful tools in After Effects, and in this tutorial we’ll look at how to create them and a few ways they can be used. Two methods of adjustment are available in this simple dockable script, you can shift your mask either by a set specific X and Y value or by nudging it by a smaller value. In this post, I will show you all the Mask Mode Keyboard Shortcuts you need to know to help you work smarter, not harder. If you ever had the need to reposition your mask by single pixel increments, you should find this helpful too. Learning keyboard shortcuts is one of the best things you can do to speed up your workflow in After Effects, especially working with masks. As a result of this, a mask path will be formed by default by pressing M to get the Mask Path property. If you want to move a single path from Adobe Illustrator to Adobe after effects, you need to copy that path from Illustrator and then paste it to After Effects. If you’ve ever keyframed a mask to only find out you’ve ran off the edge of the layer, you’ll appreciate this script. The method of pasting a path from Illustrator to After Effects is quite simple. It simply allows you to shift a layer’s mask position.
